Often with the event of a ‘new year’ thoughts can turn to starting afresh and considering the changes we’d like to see in our lives – both in ourselves and our circumstances.
Have you ever wondered why we want to make these changes?
Ultimately it’s because we believe it will make us feel better.
But… feelings don’t come from outside of us. They don’t come from weighing less, they don’t come from a new relationship and they don’t come from a change in job. Feelings come from one place, 100% of the time; Thought in the moment.
It can really appear as though our thoughts are being triggered by what’s occurring on the so called outside, but there is no correlation. This is why something that we think should ‘make us happy’ often doesn’t and something that should ‘make us sad’ often doesn’t. There is no consistency because there is no link.
Often when people see the truth behind how our experience is created, they notice that their lives ‘get better’. Phobias can disappear, relationships can improve, better circumstances appear out of nowhere. And then we talk about these outcomes as though they are the source of our happiness… but it’s the other way ‘round. It’s seeing where experience comes from that enables thought to fall away and for us to be in flow with the innate intelligence behind life.
The truth is that every moment is fresh, comes with a clean slate and we only have the feeling of being weighed down when we are in the misunderstanding that it’s what we’re thinking ‘about’ (projecting thought ‘out there’) that is creating the feeling of heaviness. And we look outside ourselves to see how things could be ‘lighter’ – but there is nothing out there (thankfully) that has the power to do that.
So whilst there’s nothing intrinsically wrong with considering what the future may hold, our wellbeing, our joy, our peace of mind won’t come from anything outside of ourselves. Our experience can only come via the Principles of Mind, Consciousness & Thought in each moment.
This means that instead of living life for outcomes, we’re living at source, for the pure joy of being alive. Being for no reason. That’s freedom!
